At 6 years old, Helga has lived through more than any dog should. Found emaciated and neglected as part of a court case, she was battling heartworm disease, intestinal parasites, and painful, untreated ear infections from years of suffering. Her cropped ears tell a story—but Helga does not let her past dictate who she is.

Despite it all, this gentle girl is the very definition of resilience. She’s sweet, loving, and forgiving beyond measure. Helga adores people, enjoys car rides with the windows down just enough for her snout, and is doing wonderfully with her crate and potty training. She’s calm, kind, and has been friendly with other dogs. We’ll be testing her with cats soon!

With her short legs, stocky body, and squishy face, Helga has earned the nickname “little hippo” — and one look will tell you why.

Helga is ready for a soft bed, a loving home, and a family who will show her the kindness she’s always deserved. She is ready for a forever where she will be loved and continue to get the care that she needs for the rest of her life.

**Helga will have chronic ear issues due to the neglect of her ears in the past prior to getting rescued. An adopter should be familiar with this and be comfortable with regular veterinary visits and maintenance.**
